Transition to ECUTC booklet

Welcome to the Energy Coast UTC

Hello, my name is Mr McGeehin and I am responsible for Key Stage 4, which includes the accelerated Y9 program here at the Energy Coast UTC. Over the coming weeks I am asking key staff to explain their roles and responsibilities, as well as the extra things you can expect from us when you join in September. This will showcase the totally unique experience you have to look forward to. You will see from our staff enthusiasm and passion for their areas of responsibility and desire to make your experience and future the very best it can be. Here at the Energy Coast UTC, we can’t wait to meet you to being working together to make sure you get the future you deserve.

Meet your Head of Year

My name is Mrs Akred and I will be your head of year throughout Key Stage 4. I am really looking forward to embarking on this very important journey with you in September. I am excited to get to know all of you and to watch you grow and mature in to young people, ready to make their way in the world beyond school.
People who know me know I have high expectations for students which I will set out clearly when you arrive at the UTC. This is because I want each of you to be the very best possible version of yourself. I am great believer in speaking as I find and prefer to judge each person on their individual merit and achievements as I meet them.
As your Head of Year, I will be there to listen, encourage and support you every step of your journey; in return for this all, I expect is for you to attend every day, try your best and have respect. Respect for staff, students and the school environment are THE most important attribute I expect you to bring to the UTC. If you arrive with the right attitude, we can teach you the rest! If you have any worries, concerns or questions in the meantime please do not hesitate to get in touch. See you soon!!

Meet your Attendance & Welfare Officer

Hello, my name is Mrs Fletcher and I will be your Attendance and Welfare Officer from September. My first and main priority is student welfare. I am located in the Pastoral Office and I am really looking forward to meeting you all and working with you throughout your time at the Energy Coast UTC. If you need anything at all I am always available. I believe that the most important aspect of your journey through UTC is attendance, if you’re not attending, you’re not going to learn or get the information you need to be able to succeed. As your Attendance and Welfare officer I will be here to listen, help and guide you in the right direction.
I expect every single student at the UTC to succeed in their goal, sometimes support is needed to get there and this is my goal.

Meet the Head of English

My name is Miss Redmond and I am Head of English at the UTC. English is one of the most important subjects in any school as it teaches you how to express yourself and communicate with the world around you. At the UTC, English is focused around building you into professional communicators so that you can go forward onto the very best of opportunities!

In our award-winning English department, you will find we are fun, fair and passionate teachers, who try and make English as enjoyable as possible- whether that be with live drama reenactments or with trips to lots of exciting places to make things more realistic for you. This year so far, we have been on six different trips across the country, either watching plays, visiting museums or taking in the cultural sights! We have high expectations of what you can achieve at the UTC and our goal is to make sure you have everything you need to not only succeed, but to enjoy English as much as possible.

Meet the Designated Safeguarding Lead and Pastoral Assistant Principal

My name is Mr Phizacklea and I am the Designated Safeguarding Lead at the UTC and the Assistant Principal for Pastoral. At the UTC we believe that looking after your safeguarding and pastoral needs should be at the centre of all we do, as when you are feeling safe, supported and cared for then you can be the very best version of yourself.

I am privileged to work with a fantastic pastoral and safeguarding team at the UTC, including our Heads of Key Stage 4 and 5, our Heads of Year and our Attendance and Welfare Officers. This team of fantastic staff work tirelessly to make sure every student is able to attend, and be equipped with the skills and confidence they need to be successful, both in their lessons and their extra-curricular activities as well as taking their first steps into their future careers.

With a wealth of knowledge and experience we are here to support when school and life is not going as planned, if you are need help or advice, or you just don’t feel right, we will always be there as friendly face long after you have left. As once a UTC student always a UTC student.
