At Energy Coast UTC, we believe that education should extend far beyond the classroom.

Travelling, experiencing different cultures, meeting people from different backgrounds and seeing how communities, businesses and industries operate in other parts of the world can transform a young person’s understanding of what is possible.
Our international opportunities give students the chance to step outside what is familiar, develop independence and resilience, and return with a wider perspective on their education, their future and their place in the world.

Our international programmes are designed to complement the academic, technical and personal development students experience at Energy Coast UTC. They encourage students to:

Our New York opportunity gives students the chance to experience one of the world’s most influential cities first-hand.
New York provides an extraordinary environment in which to explore culture, enterprise, technology, creativity, business and society. Students can experience the scale and diversity of a truly global city while developing a deeper understanding of the opportunities that exist beyond the UK.
The trip provides opportunities for students to experience the city together, broaden their horizons and make connections between what they are learning at Energy Coast UTC and the wider world.
For many students, travelling to New York represents a significant personal milestone. Navigating a new environment, experiencing a different culture and sharing the experience with their peers helps build confidence, independence and resilience.
It is also an opportunity to ask bigger questions:
What does the future of work look like? What makes a city successful? How do different communities live and work together? Where could my own skills and ambitions take me?
These are the kinds of questions that make international travel such a powerful part of a young person’s education.
Our Kenya opportunity offers students a very different international experience.
Through spending time in a different cultural and geographical environment, students are encouraged to look beyond their own experiences and develop a deeper understanding of the lives, communities and challenges of others.
The experience is about connection, contribution and perspective.
Students have the opportunity to experience Kenyan culture and communities first-hand, to learn from people whose lives may be very different from their own, and to reflect on the opportunities and responsibilities that come with being part of an increasingly interconnected world.
An experience such as this can challenge assumptions and encourage students to think differently about issues including community, sustainability, opportunity and inequality.
Most importantly, it helps young people understand that education is not simply about achieving qualifications. It is about developing the knowledge, character and confidence to contribute positively to society.

More than a school trip
We want our international opportunities to be experiences that students remember for the rest of their lives.
There will be excitement, new experiences and unforgettable memories, but there will also be challenge.
